My darling sister, Mary, gave me a super sweet sewing bag for Christmas. This bag is from L.I.F.E. Line and is cut, sewn and screen printed by hand in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, and the artwork is seriously adorable. Here’s what they have to say about their organization.
The L.I.F.E. Line started in 2008 with a small group of mothers in Kenya, shunned by society because they had children with special needs. Teaching these women to sew allowed them to earn an income for their families, send their children to school and grow from quiet outcasts to leaders of change. What started with a canvas tote bag ended up transforming an entire community.
Well, could this bag be any more perfect? Not only is it fashionable, but it’s a charity that I am so happy to support. Normally, I like to give my sewing friends gifts that I made, but I think this year, I’ll be giving these out instead.
Here’s another great design. I may have to get it so I can have a matching set. This one features a very appropriate and inspiring quote from Martin Luther King: “An inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one, directly affects all.
Oh, and I should probably get the change purse, too, it just makes cents (see what I did there?!?!?).
