Caila’s Journal Cover

The final featured guest in my Journal Cover Sew-Along is Caila of Caila Made. I found Caila during Family Ever After’s Sew-vivor online sewing contest a few months ago. She was a top ten contestant and, thanks to this entry, this entry, and this entry, she won the whole thing! I really loved her style and personality so I crossed my fingers and asked her to participate in my sew-along – she didn’t disappoint :-)

There are two things about this journal cover that I just can’t get over: 1) it’s so perfectly boyish with the paper airplane and 2) that is one handsome little model. Wait, make it three things: 3) the quote by C.S. Lewis (one of my two all-time favorite authors {the other is Jane Austen}) is perfect for a journal cover; “You can make anything by writing.” What a inspiring thing to read everytime you put pen to paper.

As an added bonus, Caila has made a second journal cover, which she’ll debut on her blog tomorrow so be sure to check back with her for another creative and beautiful cover design.

Is the reverse applique technique easier or better on knit fabric? I want to try on a woven, but afraid it will fray. Thanks.

I would say reverse appliqué is about the same on knit and woven. I prefer the raw-edge look of appliqué on woven fabrics so the fraying is a welcome sight. If it’s not something you would wash often, like a journal cover, then the fraying really isn’t a problem.

Thank you so much for having me, Ginny! I loved creating something unique for my son, and your video tutorial is simply incredible!
